Provincial Homelessness Initiative

Under the Provincial Homelessness Initiative, the Province works in partnership with local communities, the federal government, and non-profit providers to develop new housing options with integrated support services to help individuals who are homeless or at risk move beyond temporary shelter to more secure housing and gain greater self-reliance.

Through the provincial housing strategy, Housing Matters BC , the Province has committed to developing more than 6,500 new and upgraded supportive housing units and shelter beds under the Provincial Homelessness Initiative. This initiative is funded in part through the Canada-BC Affordable Housing Initiative ,

As part the Provincial Homelessness Initiative, the Province has acquired 26 Single Room Occupancy hotels to protect some of the existing affordable housing stock and signed agreements with eight municipalities to develop over 2,300 new and supportive housing units.
