Seniors' Rental Housing

The provincial government worked in partnership with local municipalities and the federal government to develop approximately 40 developments  across British Columbia, creating new affordable rental options for seniors aged 55 and older. The Seniors' Rental Housing initiative is a result of a $125.5-million joint investment under the Canada-British Columbia Affordable Housing Agreement, which includes funding through Canada’s Economic Action Plan and by the Government of British Columbia.

The new developments, which are being built on provincially- and municipally owned land, will use either modular, manufactured housing construction or site-built wood frame construction to promote B.C. wood product use.

These new one-bedroom apartments – approximately 1,300 in all – will provide seniors age 55-plus and persons with disabilities who are able to live independently with an affordable option for staying in the communities they know and love. Where possible, new developments will be co-located close to existing seniors housing.
