Housing Endowment Fund

The $250 million Housing Endowment Fund (HEF) was established in 2007 to encourage new ideas and support innovative housing solutions for British Columbians most in need. The Fund has been successful since its inception and is now fully subscribed.

More than 40 innovative housing proposals received more than $25 million to develop nearly 400 affordable housing units and other unique projects. As well, all of the future earnings of the Housing Endowment Fund have been committed to provide housing and support services for 2,200 people who would otherwise be homeless.  Permanent housing is being created in 32 new supportive housing developments in eight municipalities across B.C.  The first of these projects have already opened in Kelowna, Victoria and Vancouver. The remainder of the projects will be completed over the next 24 months.
