Housing Renovation Partnership
In October 2009, the Governments of Canada and
British Columbia announced the $177
million cost-shared Housing Renovation Partnership
(HRP), which provided funding to renovate and retrofit social
housing in greatest need of repair throughout the province,
creating an estimated 1,130 jobs.
The majority of the funding, $164 million, was
directed toward repairs at 103 social housing
developments managed by BC Housing and the non-profit housing
sector. The remainder of the funding, $13 million, was
allocated to renovations at 19 provincially-owned
Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels
managed by non-profit operators. The program is
funded by the
Canada-BC Affordable Housing Agreement.
