Developing Sustainable Housing

The 2011/12 livegreen: Housing Sustainability Plan provides a roadmap to help fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and our environmental footprint. The plan promotes sustainability within the public and private housing sectors, and sets out three aspiring strategies:

With responsibility for more than 13,500 social housing units in 200 communities,
BC Housing has a significant carbon footprint. The agency became carbon neutral in large part through renovations and energy retrofits. The result has been a 25 per cent reduction greenhouse gas emissions compared to the 2005 baseline. For more information, view the 2010 Carbon Neutral Action Report.
