Flo's Story
May 6th, 2010
“Loneliness is a disease and this place is the
cure.”
So says 85-years-young Flo, a resident at the new Squamish
Renaissance Retirement Residence providing assisted living
apartments with support services for independent seniors.
Flo is in fact a big fan of her new home saying,
“This is one of the best places there could ever
be!”
Like many seniors wanting to live independently close to family
and friends but needing a little extra help, Flo enjoys being a
part of her new community at Squamish Renaissance.
“It was a big change from living by myself in my
mobile home,” Flo says. “Here, you have
your own apartment so you can enjoy your privacy, but then
there’s always something going on like tea time, card
playing or lawn bowling if you want to get out and socialize
too.”
Of the care she receives from Squamish Renaissance Retirement
Residence and Vancouver Coastal Health Flo says, “The
staff are fantastic! It’s like a big family in that
way. Plus, it’s nice to know that if I run into any
problems, there’s a button I can press for help any
time of the day or night.”
Not wanting to be a burden to her family of three sons whom she
adores, Flo says her new residence suits her just fine and there
isn’t any other place she’d rather be.
One of the last developments to open under the Independent
Living BC program, the Squamish Renaissance offers a middle option
between home care and residential care for those who need some
assistance, but do not need 24-hour professional nursing care.
