BC Shelter Map

The BC Shelter Map has been created as a resource to help people locate homeless shelters across the province. The map provides daily updates so people know when shelters are open or closed at any given time. It also provides shelter location and contact information. It does not specify if a shelter is full or if there are beds available.

Year-Round Shelters include the Emergency Shelter Program and Homeless Emergency Action Team (HEAT) shelters, totalling over 1,800 spaces across BC. Most Year-Round Shelters stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provide meals. To confirm details about shelter hours, services and permitted client groups, please contact shelters directly.

Extreme Weather Response (EWR) shelters are funded by BC Housing to operate from November 1st to March 31st each year. Each community determines the criteria for extreme weather alerts which threaten the health and safety of homeless individuals. A community representative issues an alert to local police, the community and BC Housing announcing the EWR shelter will open, increasing local emergency shelter capacity. To give more information, we have included some EWR shelters which are not funded by BC Housing but are part of the EWR community activation. Those shelters are identified as non-provincially-funded spaces.

Please note: This map is updated on weekdays as soon as BC Housing receives community EWR notices. It is updated once a day on weekends at 4pm.
