Federal - Provincial agreementsThe Province of British Columbia, through BC
Housing, and the Government of Canada, through Canada Mortgage and
Housing Corporation, partner together to help address social
housing needs across the province. The two
main housing agreements between the province and the
federal government are the
Canada - BC Affordable Housing Agreement and the
Canada - BC Social Housing Agreement. Click the links below

Canada - BC Affordable Housing Agreement
In December 2001, the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada announced the first bilateral agreement under the Canada-British Columbia Affordable Housing Agreement in the country. Under this agreement, the Government of Canada, through CMHC, will contribute $130 million by 2008 towards affordable housing in this province. The provincial government, through BC Housing, will provide a minimum of $34 million annually to subsidize the cost of units built under this agreement, as part of a larger strategy to provide a range of housing options for British Columbians in greatest need. Canada - BC Social Housing Agreement
On June 19, 2006, the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia signed the social housing agreement transferring the administration of 51,600 units to the Province of British Columbia. Click here for more information. |
