Emergency Shelter Program Framework
In the spring of 2007, a new program framework was developed to better integrate the Emergency Shelter Program into the housing continuum, making it easier for people facing homelessness to move from emergency shelters into housing with supports. For more information, please refer to Frequently Asked Questions for Shelter Operators, the Program Framework Fact Sheet and to assist in communicating the updates refer to Program Fact Sheet for External Stakeholders.

October 12th announcement
On October 12, 2007, the Province of B.C. increased the funding for emergency shelters by $25 million so they can more effectively work with their clients to break the cycle of homelessness . Check out the news release or  view the capital and ongoing operation funding chart. BC Housing will be meeting with emergency shelter operators as soon as possible to discuss implementation.

Register to receive program updates
Anyone wishing to receive updates on the Emergency Shelter Program can do so by registering for email notifications. Individuals registered will receive an electronic copy of Building Connections, a newsletter for Emergency Shelter Program funded agencies, as well as email notifications on any updates relevant to homeless shelter and drop-in centre operators.  

Follow the instructions below to register:

  • Complete the registration form.
  • Select  "Homeless shelter and Drop-In Updates"
