How to apply to Community Partnership Initiatives

BC Housing will consider financial assistance for affordable housing projects that demonstrate:

  • An unmet need for affordable housing for the most vulnerable people in the local community.
  • A solution that will effectively alleviate that need and increase housing options.
  • Substantial financial contributions from others, such as the sponsoring group, other levels of government, other non-profit societies and community organizations.
  • The proposed project is cost effective, sustainable, and provides good value for the investment.

Types of Assistance
There are a number of ways BC Housing may help with affordable housing development through Community Partnership Initiatives, including:

  • Providing capital assistance (grants and forgivable loans)
  • Providing interim construction financing
  • Facilitating mortgage financing
  • Providing rental assistance
  • Providing development advice
  • Leasing surplus PRHC-owned land
The nature of our assistance will depend on the merits of the proposed project and the resources we have available at the time.

Application for Assistance
To apply to Community Partnership Initiatives, you need to provide information that demonstrates the project will meet our CPI objectives. Depending on the nature of the proposed project, your submission should include a description or analysis of the:

  • Sponsor
  • Need and demand
  • Site description
  • Building description
  • Community contributions
  • Capital budget
  • Operating budget
  • Schedule

Proposal Evaluation
Evaluations are based on how well proposals meet the objectives of the Community Partnership Initiatives and the resources available to BC Housing at the time. We may ask you to provide further information. Once BC Housing has reviewed the proposal, we will notify the sponsor if assistance will be provided.
