Energy audits & retrofits of existing buildings

BC Housing is reviewing our public and non-profit housing stock to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency. This public housing portfolio consists of 7,800 units that BC housing owns and manages. The non-profit housing portfolio includes 33,400 units owned and managed by non-profit societies. Operating costs for non-profit projects are subsidized by BC Housing.

Energy audits have been conducted on selected buildings in the two portfolios to provide the following information:

  • Current energy use
  • Proposed retrofit measures
  • Estimated energy savings
Pilot projects are underway in both portfolios to implement the retrofit measures. Next steps include assessment of the pilot and a business plan for an overall energy management plan for two portfolios.

We are also reviewing our major capital improvements to existing social housing to identify energy performance opportunities.
