Women's Transition Housing and Supports Program

violent relationship:

BC Housing is now responsible for Transition Houses, Safe Homes and Second Stage Housing and related support services for women and their dependent children fleeing violence.

Last year, approximately 13,000 women and children stayed at Transition Houses and Safe Homes in British Columbia.


  • Emotional support and crisis intervention
  • Safe, temporary shelter with 24/7 staffing
  • Help in accessing housing, child care, schooling, parenting support and financial, medical and legal assistance
Safe Homes are located in small, remote areas and provide shorter-stay support and crisis intervention.

Second Stage Housing provides longer-term housing following a stay in a Transition House or Safe Home.

Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General provides Stopping the Violence Counselling , Children Who Witness Abuse Counselling and community-based Outreach and Multicultural Outreach Services to women and children fleeing violence.
