While wood decks and balconies can be robust and long-lasting structures, they can be challenging to design and construct due to their exposure to the elements. This workshop provides an overview of common performance issues. It explores durability considerations for designing, constructing, and maintaining wood deck and balcony structures.
In this workshop you will learn about:
- Structural design considerations for framing, lateral support, guards and stairs,
- Moisture considerations such as slope and drainage, drying and ventilation, and detailing at key interfaces,
- Material choices, and
- Maintenance and renewals
The information is relevant for single homes and low-rise wood-frame residential buildings across British Columbia.
This event is presented by BC Housing in collaboration with Canadian Wood Council, Building and Safety Standards Branch and new home warranty providers.
