As the chief information officer (CIO) for BC Housing's Information Technology Department, I strive for an environment in which collaboration, communication and innovation are encouraged. In order to meet the needs of this province, we must share a vision. To be truly effective, IT must evolve into a strategic asset that is fully aligned and integrated with the organization's mission, strategic goals and objectives. The CIO is responsible for ensuring that the Department's programs make full and appropriate use of information technology by supporting the use of leading-edge technology with improved products and services in the most financially effective way.

BC Housing's IT departments

We have four different IT environments for aspiring professionals to work in. They each offer unique challenges and play an important role in delivering our services.

1. Enterprise Business Systems

Managing and supporting our corporate business applications, Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) maintains a variety of Oracle technologies, including JD Edwards, PeopleSoft and Siebel CRM. Subgroups include functional analysis, packaged applications configuration, custom development and application integration. EBS designs, develops and manages corporate reporting infrastructures, business intelligence systems and data warehouses.

2. Technical Services

Responsible for our IT infrastructure and business applications support, Technical Services provides advanced support for infrastructure and applications.

Supporting our current and future IT systems, Business Application Services performs system and database administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, analysis, enhancements and upgrades, and provides technical assistance to project teams during new system implementations.

Infrastructure Services maintains the integrity of our data centre and disaster recovery site, performs regular testing and tuning as changes to the production environment occur, and leads improvements to infrastructure systems.

You can expect to work in a highly virtualized multi-platform (Windows, Linux) environment employing VMware vSphere clusters, EMC storage solutions, Cisco unified communications (VoIP) and Citrix technologies, and to have ample opportunity for cross-skill utilization.

3. IT Project Delivery

IT Project Delivery coordinates, directs and implements a portfolio of software projects and activities that come together to achieve outcomes and realize benefits that are aligned with the strategic priorities of the organization. We utilize standard software delivery methodologies including waterfall and agile.

4. Client Services

Home of our Service Desk and Desktop Services, Client Services supports the implementation of new IT systems and ongoing systems training. We also handle the client satisfaction program designed to solicit client feedback for the wide range of services provided by the IT department.
