Building Smart: The Economics of Building with Mass Timber - Part One

Building Smart Event
Tuesday, October 4, 2022
9:00 am – 12:00 pm (PST)
Cost: $108

What are the costs to build a 7-12 storey multi-family building with mass timber in BC? How will these buildings meet BC Energy Step Code requirements?

Join us online for the answers to these questions with six industry specialists. Speakers will share highlights from their recent B.C. study on the economics of building with mass timber.

Mass timber has the potential for increased building performance as well as operational and embodied carbon reductions. It also provides opportunities for including nature-centred design and providing increased occupant comfort.

This first session in a two-part series focuses on examples of regional multi-unit buildings designed for unique site-specific requirements and climate zones.

Join us to discover the integration potential of the mass timber façade and structure with low carbon energy systems. Learn how mass timber differs from concrete and steel hybrid construction, as well as flexible and repeatable building types and construction techniques. Attendees will also discover the factors that affect construction schedules and occupancy.

This event is being held in collaboration with NRCan, CMHC, Forestry Innovation Investment and the Province of BC’s Office of Mass Timber Implementation.
