Program Overview

The BC Temporary Rental Supplement Program gave tenants and landlords temporary support towards rent payments from April to August 2020 for low- and moderate-income renters who lost income as a result of COVID-19. Payments were made directly to the landlords of eligible households.

The program ended on August 31, 2020.

Additional Resources

Renters who are still experiencing a loss of income may also be eligible for either the Rental Assistance Program or the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) programs, which provide ongoing rental assistance for lower income families and seniors.

Details and full eligibility requirements can be found on our Rental Assistance page, or call BC Housing at 604-433-2218 or toll-free from anywhere in B.C. at 1-800-257-7756.

The ban on issuing evictions for non-payment of rent ended on August 18, 2020 and renters are expected to pay rent in full as of September 1, 2020.  However, renters in arrears for rent due between March 18 and August 17 will have until at least July 2021 to pay any rent owed.  Information about changes to B.C.’s tenancy laws during COVID-19 and the terms that need to be included in any repayment plans can be found on the B.C Government Site.

The Repayment Plan Template can be downloaded.
