About the Project

Working together, the Province, the City of Colwood, the Aboriginal Land Trust Society and the Huu-ay-aht Frist Nations secured land and a 6-storey, 124-unit building at 342 Wale Road, Colwood to provide affordable housing to Indigenous families in greater Victoria. With nearly 2,000 Indigenous families in the area, 37% in Core Housing Need, Victoria has the second largest Indigenous population in B.C.

With funding from the Province, the Aboriginal Land Trust Society purchased the site and building. BC Housing will work with project partners to complete construction and project operations. The final building will be a 6-storey wood-frame structure that includes common-area rooms on each floor plus a laundry room for residents. There will be 64 one-bedroom, 42 two-bedroom, 12 three-bedroom and six accessible one-bedroom units. Two levels of underground parking will be available along with personal storage units.

These homes will be within walking distance to major transit routes, shopping, restaurants and other services. A large, outdoor landscaped green space facing Victoria’s Galloping Goose walking and cycling trail is planned.
