BC Housing, through the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation, has purchased the property at 420 Downie Street in Revelstoke to develop affordable housing.
About the Project
In response to the community’s need for more affordable housing, BC Housing has purchased the Revelstoke Board of Education’s Mount Begbie school property, at 420 Downie Street, to develop the three-acre site to provide housing for people in need.
The sale of this former elementary school site provides the community with an opportunity to develop a comprehensive community plan and strategy to deliver much needed affordable housing for local families, seniors and young people working in the area.
The Revelstoke area has a shortage of affordable housing. A housing needs and assessment study identified the area was short 208 subsidized units and 216 market rental units. Low-income service workers and low-to moderate income families with children currently have the fewest affordable housing options.
Process & Engagement
BC Housing will be undergoing a comprehensive public engagement and site planning process. This work will be undertaken with future funding partners, the City of Revelstoke and local residents and will build on the earlier community consultations completed by the Revelstoke Board of Education.
