Supportive housing residents to benefit from purchase of Woodwynn Farms

VICTORIA – People who are living in supportive housing in the Capital Regional District (CRD) will have opportunities to become healthier and learn new skills, following the purchase of Woodwynn Farms by the Province, through BC Housing, for use as a therapeutic-recovery community.

About the Project

On July 11, 2018, BC Housing purchased Woodwynn Farm at 7779 West Saanich Road, Saanichton. General maintenance has been underway at Woodwynn Farm, including clean-up, repairs and soil sampling. BC Housing provided a property lease to a local farm manager with previous experience on Woodwynn as well as other farms in the area.

BC Housing purchased the farm with the intent of providing an opportunity for a therapeutic farm. Proposals for future uses of Woodwynn Farm will be informed by consultations with the community including the Tsartlip First Nation, District of Central Saanich, Vancouver Island Health Authority and the Agricultural Land Commission. In the interim, BC Housing is tracking requests from the community for potential future uses of the site.
Community members are welcome to send their ideas to Heidi Hartman, Regional Direct of Operations - Vancouver Island, at hhartman@bchousing.org.

Process & Engagement

We appreciate the agricultural and historic importance of this farm to the surrounding community. We’ll inform local residents of our plans for the site once we have a partner in place, a program operating model, and a timeline.

We will operate the property in compliance with its Agricultural Land Reserve designation and associate land use bylaws.
