BC Housing is working with the District of Central Saanich to develop a long-term plan to operate this property.
About the Project
BC Housing bought Woodwynn Farms in July 2018. This purchase allows us to explore partnerships with the municipality, other ministries, and local community-based organisations.
We’re working with the District of Central Saanich and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions. We’ll develop a long-term plan for operating the property and identify a vision for the future.
This will include using the property at 7779 West Saanich Road, in Saanichton, to provide a therapeutic environment for people dealing with mental-health challenges and substance-use issues. The property will serve supportive housing projects in the Capital Regional District by providing opportunities for people to work on the farm.
We — and the non-profit partner(s) who are operating these services — will identify and select program participants. Those who are living in the CRD and struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues will be able to apply.
This is a different but proven way of supporting people’s ability to maintain their housing and potentially move on to independent housing.
Process & Engagement
We appreciate the agricultural and historic importance of this farm to the surrounding community. We’ll inform local residents of our plans for the site once we have a partner in place, a program operating model, and a timeline.
We will operate the property in compliance with its Agricultural Land Reserve designation and associate land use bylaws.
