BC Housing, Vancouver Coastal Health, and the City of Powell River are partnering to create 40 units of permanent modular supportive housing for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
About the Project
BC Housing, Vancouver Coastal Health, the City of Powell River, and community agencies recognize the urgent need for more affordable housing in Powell River. People experiencing homelessness are already a part of our community; we want to help them find safe and affordable housing there.
BC Housing is leasing the property east of the intersection at Joyce Avenue and Harvie Avenue from the Powell River Regional Hospital District to build 40 self-contained studio homes with supports.
The housing will be operated by PREP Community Programs, in partnership with Life Cycle Housing Society, which have 50 years of combined experience in Powell River. The responsibilities of PREP and Life Cycle will include property management, operations management, and tenant selection. Once tenants move in, staff will remain on-site 24/7 for support. The operator is committed to being a good neighbour.
The new studio homes will include shared amenity space, such as a commercial kitchen for learning healthy cooking and other culinary life-skills, as well as laundry facilities. Each home will have a private bathroom and in-suite kitchen. Residents will have access to 24/7 support services, including access to employment and other life-skills training, and health and wellness services. The development is scheduled for completion in spring 2019.

Neighbourhood Information Session
A neighbourhood information session was held on Monday, September 17, 2018, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at the Powell River Public Library. Representatives from BC Housing, Vancouver Coastal Health, the City of Powell River, PREP Community Programs, and Life Cycle Housing Society presented information and answered questions.
