Project Overview
BC Housing and the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS) are partnering on a plan to build a new mixed-use development to meet a range of housing needs in Vancouver. The project would build over 150 new rental units, 25 homes with supports, and 80 permanent shelter beds on the vacant lot at 1015 East Hastings Street.

About the Project
Vancouver is in a housing crisis and there is a need for more permanent homes for the City’s most vulnerable residents. This proposed project is a partnership of BC Housing and the VAFCS and would include about:
- 80 welcoming, safe shelter beds for people and families experiencing homelessness
- 25 studio and one-bedroom homes with supports for people who are ready to move from the shelter to more independent living
- 85 new affordable rental homes for people and families with lower incomes (one, two and three-bedroom units)
- 53 new market rental homes
Through architecture, design, and programming, the building will celebrate the area’s rich and vibrant Indigenous history and traditions. This project is being developed in consideration of the City of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside Plan and the Housing Vancouver Strategy. The site requires rezoning, and there will be opportunities for community engagement throughout the planning process.
