BC Housing will be submitting a rezoning application to the City of Surrey for approximately 60 new units of supportive housing on a city-owned site at 14706 104 Avenue.
About the Project
Surrey is in a housing crisis and over 600 people across the city are experiencing homelessness. As part of the ongoing work to address this crisis, BC Housing has identified a potential location at 14706 104 Avenue to build approximately 60 new permanent studio apartments with 24/7 supports for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Surrey. BC Housing will be leading the application to rezone the property.
Lookout Housing and Health Society (Lookout) currently manages the Guildford Shelter on the adjacent site and would operate the new supportive housing. A Guildford Community Advisory Committee, with representation from BC Housing, City of Surrey, Fraser Health, RCMP, Surrey School District, community organizations and community members is currently meeting on a quarterly basis to discuss any concerns related to the Guildford Shelter. This committee would begin meeting every two months if the housing is approved, as a resource to support the successful integration of the new building and residents into the community.
Supportive housing is a self-contained studio home with supports provided on-site, to ensure people can achieve and maintain housing stability. Priority would be given to Surrey residents who meet the eligibility criteria. BC Housing and Lookout would lead the resident selection process, in collaboration with local service providers. All new residents would pay rent, and sign a program agreement and good neighbour agreement.
