About the Project
The Alkali Lake Health & Wellness Centre features five supportive recovery beds and culturally appropriate recovery and stabilization services for Indigenous people in the Thompson Cariboo region.
The Esk’etemc First Nation partnered with The Government of Canada, First Nations Health Authority, Interior Health Authority, and BC Housing to fund and construct this centre. It is first Net Zero Energy Ready building to be built on First Nations land in a northern Canadian climate.
In addition to the supportive recovery beds, the Alkali Lake Health & Wellness Centre will offer variety of services designed to help provide assessment, treatment, and community outreach for clients with mental health and substance use concerns.
More about energy-efficient construction
This project is part of a series of field-trial buildings constructed in the province through the Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships (LEEP) initiative. To learn more about how this initiative is helping to drive innovation in the residential construction industry and accelerate the construction of affordable energy-efficient homes in B.C., visit the Building High Performance Homes through LEEP Series One and LEEP Series Two project pages.
