Building prior to renovations

Project overview

BC Housing is proposing to open 25 interim shelter spaces at 3892 3rd Avenue.

We would renovate the current building on site to include:

  • 25 shelter beds
  • Landscaping, privacy fencing and on‑site parking
  • Fresh exterior paint and covered outdoor common areas
  • Updated washroom facilities
  • Reception and office space for staff
  • Improved indoor common areas, including a central kitchen

This project would be funded through the Province’s HEART & HEARTH program. Through this program, we can build and offer housing quickly to people experiencing homelessness.

This building was used as a temporary winter shelter during the 2025-26 season. This shelter closed on March 31, 2026. The new, interim shelter would be in place temporarily while we continue to build more permanent shelter spaces and supportive homes in the community, including at 3879 Alfred Avenue
