BC Housing offers online courses to help people support survivors of gender-based violence.
Overview
These training courses provide a comprehensive introduction to understanding gender-based violence, assessing risk, enhancing safety, and supporting survivors through trauma-informed approaches.
Courses are free for eligible learners and intended for:
- Support workers
- Management staff
- Volunteers
- Practicum students
Intimate Partner Violence Safety Planning Online Training
This course provides a practical resource to assist support workers. It focuses on safety planning with survivors and families affected by partner violence. Modules provide the foundational tools for safety planning.
Duration: 5–6 hours
Format: Online, self-paced (must be completed within 60 days)
Modules:
- Module 1: Intimate Partner Violence and Approaches to Safety
- Module 2: Identifying Risks and Collaborating Across Sectors
- Module 3: Working with Survivors to Develop Safety Plans
Cost: Free for eligible learners
Supporting Survivors: Addressing Gender-based Violence Training
This course gives an overview of how to work with survivors of gender‑based violence. It uses a trauma‑ and violence‑informed approach and focuses on supporting survivors with brain injuries, as well as Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ survivors.
Duration: 1–2 hours
Format: Online, self-paced (must be completed within 60 days)
Modules:
- Module 1: Understanding Gender-Based Violence
- Module 2: Recognizing and Responding to Brain Injury
- Module 3: Supporting Indigenous Survivors
- Module 4: Working with 2SLGBTQQIA+ Survivors
- Module 5: Applying Trauma- and Violence-Informed Practice
Cost: Free for eligible learners
Eligibility
To enrol for free, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be employed by a program funded under one of the following:
- Women’s Transition Housing & Supports Program
- Supportive Housing Program
- Have consent to enrol from your employer
- Agree to complete the training within 60 days of your first login
