Project overview
BC Housing is proposing to build a permanent 60-bed shelter at 2570 Bartley Road in West Kelowna. This would be a purpose-built, year-round shelter.
The 2-storey wood-frame shelter would include:
- 60 beds
- Indoor and outdoor common areas
- Central kitchen
- Washroom and laundry facilities
- Fenced grounds with on-site vehicle and bicycle parking
Once open, this would replace the temporary shelter at 2500 Bartley Court.
Shelters offer free, immediate places to stay for adults (19+) who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. A guest's length of stay in a shelter varies depending on their individual needs and goals. Shelter staff work with each guest to help them move toward stable, permanent housing.
Typical supports include:
- A bed
- Shared washrooms and laundry facilities
- Daily meals
- 24/7 onsite staff support
- Personalized case planning
- Referrals to health care, housing and other community services
Supports and services are for registered shelter guests only.
BC Housing selected Turning Points Collaborative Society to operate this building. Staff will manage the building and provide services to shelter guests. Since 2021, Turning Points has operated the temporary shelter at 2500 Bartley Court.
