Report recommendations implemented at Port Alberni shelters and supportive housing

PORT ALBERNI – In November 2020, BC Housing secured a third-party contractor to conduct an independent review of operational concerns about the Port Alberni Shelter Society’s management of two shelters, as well as their supportive housing site in the community. Since the review completed in March 2021, BC Housing has been working with the Port Alberni Shelter Society, its Board of Directors, and our partners to implement 21 actions that resulted from the review’s recommendations.

WET’SUWET’EN NATION – A third-party report commissioned by BC Housing to review the management practices of Smithers Community Services Association (SCSA) at Goodacre Place is now complete. The review was conducted starting in April 2021, following allegations that the deaths of six Indigenous residents were related to inadequate culturally appropriate programming at Goodacre Place supportive housing complex.
