Project overview
BC Housing is planning to build 143 new homes at 925 Braidwood and Ryan Road.
The 2-storey and 4-storey residential apartment buildings will include:
- 70 studio homes with support services (supportive housing)
- 73 permanent shelter spaces with support services
- Capacity for 30 extra shelter spaces during extreme weather
- Separate indoor program spaces and outdoor common areas
- Separate dining areas and laundry facilities
- Separate reception entrance areas and office space for staff
- Fenced grounds and on-site parking
Supportive housing is subsidized housing with on-site supports. Residents are adults (19+) who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This can include seniors and people with disabilities.
All residents apply to live in supportive housing, sign program agreements and pay rent.
Typical supports include:
- 24/7 staffing
- Daily meals
- Life skills and employment training
- Access to health supports
- Connections to community services
To learn more, check out our Stories from Supportive Housing playlist on YouTube. These short videos show inside several supportive housing buildings. They also share stories from residents, staff and neighbours.
Shelters offer free, immediate places to stay for adults (19+) who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. A guest may stay in a shelter space for one night to a few months or longer. Shelter staff work with each guest to help them move toward stable, permanent housing.
Typical supports include:
- Bed and bedding
- Shared washrooms and laundry facilities
- Daily meals
- 24/7 staff support
- Personalized case planning
- Referrals to health care, housing and other community services
Supports and services are for registered shelter guests only.
BC Housing selected Lookout Housing and Health Society to operate the Supportive housing and Connective to operate the shelter. Staff will manage the individual buildings and provide services to residents and shelter guests.
