Project overview
BC Housing, Squamish Community Housing Society and Squamish Helping Hands Society, in partnership with the District of Squamish, are proposing to build approximately 165 new homes at 39900 Government Road and Centennial Way.
The long-term vision for this site includes both supportive housing and affordable rental housing. The proposed project would include two separate residential buildings.
Supportive housing
The supportive housing building would include:
- A 6-storey building with 65 studio homes with support services (supportive housing)
- Indoor and outdoor common areas
- Central kitchen and laundry facilities
- Reception area and office space for staff
- Fenced grounds with on-site vehicle and bicycle parking
We expect to start construction of this building in summer 2027.
Affordable rental housing
The affordable rental building would include:
- A 6-storey building with 85 to 100 affordable rental homes
- Studios, one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments
Funding for this building is not yet confirmed and a project timeline is not yet available.
Supportive housing is subsidized housing with on-site supports. Residents are single adults (19+) who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This can include seniors and people with disabilities.
All residents apply to live in supportive housing, sign program agreements and pay rent.
Typical supports include:
- 24/7 staffing
- Daily meals
- Life skills and employment training
- Access to health supports
- Connections to community services
To learn more, check out our Stories from Supportive Housing playlist on YouTube. These short videos show inside several supportive housing buildings. They also share stories from residents, staff and neighbours.
BC Housing has made formal commitments to the District of Squamish to promote the safe and effective operation of the supportive housing at 39900 Government Road. See this Letter of Commitment.
As part of these commitments, BC Housing will launch a Neighbourhood Inclusion Table. This table will bring together local agencies including SHHS, the District of Squamish, Vancouver Coastal Health and RCMP. This group will meet regularly during the first year of housing operations. Members will work together to support the initial operations of the housing, address any issues and concerns, and promote overall inclusion in the community.
Affordable rental housing provides secure homes for moderate-income households in Squamish, prioritizing seniors, people with disabilities and families.
Residents must be able to live independently without on-site supports.
Supportive Housing:
BC Housing selected Squamish Helping Hands Society (SHHS) to operate the supportive housing building. Staff would manage the building and provide services to its residents.
Learn more about SHHS by visiting squamishhelpinghands.ca.
Affordable Rental Housing:
Housing Squamish would own and operate the affordable rental housing building.

We commit to being good neighbours. We will share any updates about this project as soon as they are available.
We would share a direct phone number for the buildings when they open and address any concerns quickly and collaboratively.
