Project overview
Kamloops Complex Care Housing will provide 20 apartments for adults (19+), including seniors and people with disabilities, who face or are at risk of homelessness and have complex health needs such as mental health challenges, addictions, brain injuries, disabilities, or chronic illness.
The building will include:
- 20 studio homes with kitchenettes and private bathrooms
- A central kitchen
- A communal dining area
- Amenity spaces
- Clinical spaces where residents can receive on‑site health care
The building will be designed to feel welcoming, home‑like, and part of the neighbourhood.
This project is an important part of our continued effort to address and prevent homelessness and improve access to health services, including mental health and substance use services, in Kamloops.
Development, Heritage Inspection, demolition and building permits are required. BC Housing will continue to own the land once the project is complete.
In Complex Care Housing (CCH), residents access the same services as supportive housing. In CCH, specialized professionals also provide enhanced health, cultural and social supports to people with more complex needs.
BC Housing will choose an experienced nonprofit organization through a competitive public process. This group will run the building and support the residents. When the group is chosen, we will contact neighbours to introduce them.
Interior Health will provide extra health supports to people living in the building. By working together, we want to improve the health and wellbeing of residents and the larger community.
In spring 2025, we talked with people in the community about the plan to create new Complex Care Housing (CCH) in Kamloops. We also explained how this project fits into the larger plan for the area known as the Columbia Precinct.
