Nanaimo – 250 Bryden Street

Project overview

BC Housing is planning to build 50 new homes at 250 Bryden Street (formerly known as 250 Terminal Avenue). The Province announced on September 3, 2026, that these homes will operate as recovery-oriented housing. These homes will support people in recovery who want to reduce their exposure to drugs and alcohol and move towards stable housing and greater wellness.

The 5-storey residential apartment building will include:

  • 50 studio homes with support services
  • Indoor and outdoor common areas
  • Central kitchen and laundry facilities
  • Reception area and office space for staff

The site has hosted 50 units of temporary housing since 2018. Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS) operates this housing called Newcastle Place. These units will close when construction on the new building starts. Current residents will not lose their housing. BC Housing and ICCS will work with all residents to find other homes that meet their needs.

In a second phase, subject to funding, we plan to build another 5-storey building with approximately 36 additional affordable homes on the same property.
