Project overview
BC Housing and the City of Nelson are building 43 new homes at 45 Government Road.
The 4-storey residential apartment building will include:
- 43 studio homes with support services (supportive housing)
- Indoor and outdoor common areas
- Central kitchen and laundry facilities
- Reception area and office space for staff
- Fenced grounds with on-site vehicle and bicycle parking
Supportive housing is subsidized housing with on-site supports. Residents are single adults (19+) who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This can include seniors and people with disabilities.
All residents apply to live in supportive housing, sign housing agreements and pay rent.
Typical supports include:
- 24/7 staffing
- Daily meals
- Life skills and connection to employment supports and services
- On‑site health and wellness supports, including harm‑reduction services and connections to mental‑health, substance‑use treatment, and recovery options
- Connections to community services
- Recreational programming

BC Housing selected Nelson CARES Society to operate this building. Staff will manage the building and provide services to the residents.
