Project overview
BC Housing, the City of Kamloops and The Mustard Seed are building a 40-bed shelter at 1055 Glenfair Drive. This will be a year-round shelter. It will be called the Solace Shelter.
The modular building will include:
- 40 beds
- Indoor and outdoor common areas
- Central kitchen
- Washroom and laundry facilities
- Fenced grounds with on-site vehicle and bicycle parking
This shelter will serve mainly seniors and older adults from the local area.
Guests will be able to register for available beds. Guests will need to meet shelter expectations and criteria to stay.
Shelters offer free, immediate places to stay for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. A guest may stay in a shelter space for one night to a few months or longer. Shelter staff work with each guest to help them move toward stable, permanent housing.
Typical supports include:
- Bed and bedding
- Shared washrooms and laundry facilities
- Daily meals
- 24/7 onsite staff support
- Personalized case planning
- Referrals to health care, housing and other community services
BC Housing selected The Mustard Seed to operate the Solace Shelter. Staff will manage the building and provide services to the guests.
We commit to being good neighbours. We will share any updates about this project as soon as they are available.
We will share a direct phone number for the shelter when it opens and address any concerns quickly and collaboratively.
