Project overview
BC Housing and The Mustard Seed, with support from the City of Kamloops, have built a 40-bed year-round shelter at 1055 Glenfair Drive. It is called Solace Shelter.
The modular building includes:
- 40 beds
- Indoor and outdoor common areas
- Central kitchen
- Washroom and laundry facilities
- Fenced grounds with on-site vehicle and bicycle parking
This shelter will serve mainly seniors and older adults from the local area. Guests must register for available beds and meet shelter program criteria and expectations.
Shelters offer free, immediate places to stay for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. A guest may stay in a shelter space for one night to a few months or longer. Shelter staff work with each guest to help them move toward stable, permanent housing.
Typical supports include:
- Bed and bedding
- Shared washrooms and laundry facilities
- Daily meals
- 24/7 onsite staff support
- Personalized case planning
- Referrals to health care, housing and other community services
BC Housing selected The Mustard Seed to operate the Solace Shelter. Staff will manage the building and provide services to the guests.
We commit to being good neighbours. Please download our Who to Call, When to Call flyer for a direct phone number to the housing and other community contacts. We will address any concerns quickly and collaboratively.
