Builder qualifications apply to new licence applicants identified as general contractors that construct single-family homes and small residential buildings in BC under Part 9 of the BC Building Code. New applicants are required to meet a qualification standard before the Registrar will issue a new residential builder licence.

All builders who previously held a residential builder licence must meet these qualification requirements if:

  • Your licence was closed for failing to renew.
  • Your licence was cancelled.
  • You contravened a condition of your licence within the past five years.

If you are unsure if you’re still deemed qualified, consult our Maintaining Qualified Status on Your Residential Builder Licence page.
