What is the Canada - BC Housing Benefit (CBCHB)?
The Canada - BC Housing Benefit makes rent more affordable for select households that do not qualify for our other rental assistance programs. There is no direct application process to this program.
This benefit will be distributed to identified priority groups either by non-profit housing providers who will identify and select eligible applicants, or in some cases by BC Housing, who will select eligible households from The Housing Registry database.
Do I need to reapply every year?
To continue receiving the Housing Benefit through the CBCHB Program, you will be asked to complete a reapplication form once per year before the last Housing Benefit month. BC Housing will mail the reapplication form to you approximately three months before it is due. This form and supporting documents for income and assets will be used to determine if you are still eligible for the CBCHB and to recalculate the Housing Benefit amount.
Once your application is approved and you start to receive the Housing Benefit, you must inform BC Housing within 30 days if:
- you move to a different address
- your rent increases
- the number people in your household changes
- you start or stop sharing your accommodation with adults (roommates)
- your banking information for direct deposit changes
By providing this information promptly, we can adjust your Housing Benefit accordingly to ensure you are receiving the correct amount and avoid possible over payments.
